Purpose Over Comfort – Mischell Torreon

“God’s mission isn’t about comfort; it’s about purpose.”

Mischell Torreon grew up in a simple home in Kidapawan City, Cotabato in Mindanao, Philippines. Her father worked on a farm, while her mother stayed at home to care for the family. She and her older brother were raised Catholic, but she longed for something deeper.

As she got older, Mischell pursued education, earning a degree in Computer Science in 2023. She even took a semester of Psychology in 2024. Despite her achievements, she felt lost and uncertain about her future. Religion was a routine rather than a relationship with God. She struggled to find meaning.

That changed when she was introduced to the Seventh-day Adventist faith. As she learned more about God’s love, she understood salvation differently. The truths she discovered moved her heart, leading her to a life-changing decision. On March 25, 2023, she was baptized. For the first time, she truly grasped Jesus’ sacrifice and the importance of salvation. Her faith deepened, and she longed to serve God.

But following this new path wasn’t easy. In mid-2024, she faced emotional and spiritual struggles, which discouraged her. However, an answered prayer after three days reignited her faith and gave her hope.

With a changed heart, Mischell prayed for ways to serve. In August 2024, she faced a big decision: Should she continue her studies, focus on her job as a virtual assistant, or serve full-time? Seeking answers, she visited the Adventist Volunteer Services website on August 6. That’s when she discovered digital missionary work. At that moment, she realized this was the path God had been leading her to.

Not everyone supported her decision. Her mother was hesitant, her relatives saw it as a waste of time, and some church members doubted if it was a trustworthy place. Despite this, Mischell felt God’s call. She chose to trust Him and joined AWR-CDE as a digital missionary.

Now, she experiences daily growth; spiritually, emotionally, and in her understanding of people. She cherishes morning worship, deepens her Bible knowledge, and has learned patience, humility, and trust in God. Most of all, she finds joy in reaching out to others and encouraging her non-Adventist friends.

Looking back, Mischell sees how God led her through every challenge. She wants to share a simple message: Be ready for the unexpected. Step out in faith. God’s mission isn’t about comfort; it’s about purpose. When you trust His plan, He will lead you to something greater than you ever imagined.
